id 'Sometimes our fans drive us nuts'

id Software's described the huge expectation from its loyal following, telling Xbox World 360 magazine, 'we love our fans - but sometimes they drive us nuts'. Speaking in XBW's latest issue, creative director Tim Willits explained that even though id's latest shooter Rage offers driving, shooting and RPG elements, fans will still find holes to pick in it."The worst thing is that everyone wants the kitchen sink and everything else too," he said."For Rage, we're doing all these things and yet people are like 'Well I can't blow up these boxes', and I'm like 'Are you serious? We have driving, racing and all these cool characters!' 'But in this other game I can blow up boxes', and I'm like, 'This other game doesn't have any racing in it!'"It's crazy. Fans: I love them but sometimes they drive us nuts!"In the same interview Willits revealed that the long-in-development FPS is 'basically done'. Publisher Bethesda also released a fistful of screenshots yesterday.Rage is out on October 7.Buy Xbox World 360 online and have it delivered to your door. Andy Robinson

Sony under 'major pressure' to cut PS Vit

Sony Computer Entertainment is under "major pressure" to reduce the launch price of PlayStation Vita following a cost reduction announcement from Nintendo. That's according to Tokyo-based Ace Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda, who told Bloomberg the PlayStation firm risks "major failure" if it doesn't price its upcoming handheld - which is due out in Japan this year and in US and Europe in 2012 - competitively."Gamers are increasingly anticipating Sony to lower prices, especially after the 3DS cut," Yasuda told Bloomberg. "Sony is under major pressure to cut the price of the Vita or risk a major failure."When it does launch in the UK, Vita will set you back £229 for the Wi-Fi model and £279 for the 3G version.Sony chairman Kazuo Hirai signalled yesterday that the company won't engage in a price war with the Nintendo 3DS, which is set to have its RRP slashed by a third later this month. But not all Japanese analysts believe Sony should react to Nintendo's dramatic action. Nomura Holdings man Shiro Mikoshiba believes a higher price point for Vita fits with its target audience."The customers Sony is targeting with its Vita are those willing to spend a lot of money," he said. "That's a valid strategy even if the volume's low as long as it can sustain the higher price." Andy Robinson

Star Fox 64 3D trailer shows new weapons

Star Fox 64 3D's multiplayer mode looks to be where much of the new content will be for fans of the N64 original. It's got new levels and power-up, some of which you can see in the trailer below. New items including homing missiles, force fields and cloaking devices have been built into the game's local wireless multiplayer skirmishes, along with the questionable function of being able to see the person you're fighting on the screen in a slower frame rate and lower detail than their real-life selves sitting just a few feet from you. The game does, however, look absolutely fantastic on the 3DS screen, especially with all the new detail that's been pumped into the game's new textures. Star Fox 64 3DS will hit UK shores on September 9, and US on September 11. We will most certainly be doing a barrel roll all over this. Mike Jackson

Persona 4 fighting game gets first screen

We know it's called 'Persona 4 The Ultimate in Mayonaka', but that's a ridiculous name so let's all agree to just call this game 'Persona 4 fighting game' to save time and effort. Now that's out of the way, here are a few screens from the game to whet your appetite. Fans of the series will be happy to learn that it continues the story from Persona 4 by picking up a couple of months after the events of the PS2 title.Development duties are being handled by ARC Systemworks, which is pretty well versed in the art of developing fighting games having put out a fair few Guilty Gear and - more recently - BlazBlue titles.Characters from both Persona 3 and Persona 4 will be making an appearance. The screens show Yosuke, Chie, Teddie and a few of their Persona. The game is scheduled for release in Japanese arcades next year and an Xbox 360 and PS3 launch in pencilled in for summer 2012 in Japan.Atlus has confirmed Persona 2: Innocent Sin on PSP will be out in the States on September 20. Starcraft 2 Journey to Diamond League Wk8

By Mohammad Abubakr, OnRPG JournalistIf you missed any of the previous weeks in my journey to diamond league, check out the Starcraft II review section. (http://www.onrpg.com/MMO/Starcraft-II/reviews)Games played: 10 Initial Rank: Silver - 42 Final Rank: Silver - 38 Win/Loss: 5/5The first game in week eight of my journey to diamond league was against a Protoss. My opponent decided to open with the four gate pressure build. This is an all-in build as players continue to warp in units and do not focus on their economy. This means that if their opponent is able to hold the attacks without taking significant damage, they are in trouble. After getting cheesed and fending off all-ins all of last week, I continuously scouted my opponent. I did see four gates in his base very early on but no sign of units; there was only one zealot to block the ramp. I thought it was safe to continue droning and building up an economy but a large army took me by surprise. The Protoss race has the ability to warp in units anywhere there is a pylon. My opponent simply hid a pylon on the map and continued to warp in an army at a hidden location. Since I was unprepared and only had drones, I was unable to fend off the attack. I did not have a lot of experience against proxy pylons so I was not expecting this; I'll be sure to stop scouting only their bases and begin looking at the entire map.The following game I tried a hatch first build against a Protoss for the very first time. I was very lucky that he was located as far as possible from my base so I was safe from early aggression. The early expansion allowed me to enhance my income very early. As the game progressed I was too far ahead with my four bases against his two. I was able to reinforce my army a lot quicker than him which resulted in his base being overrun.Later that day I was put up against another Protoss. He played very passively and continued to increase his army size. He was most likely trying to max out his army and then finish the game. However, that is very hard to do on one base. He expanded very late and by that time my mutalisks were able to continuously poke his expansion, denying mining time. After realizing how far ahead I was, I simply morphed a large army and finished him.My game against a Zerg did not go so well. I did my typical 14 pool 14 gas opening and then transitioned into banelings after saturating my expansion. My opponent was commanding a roach army; banelings are not very good against roaches. I thought I would be fine since I moved over to produce mutalisks as they are good against roaches. However, I made a very big mistake to clump up my mutalisks. This was a very bad move because his army contained infestors.Infestors have an amazing spell called fungal growth which targets an area to snare and apply damage over time to units. Normally it takes multiple fungal growths to kill an entire army but I made a huge mistake. I clumped up my mutalisks so that one fungal growth would hit them all. After my mutalisks were dead, I was unable to fend off his roaches with just zerglings and banelings. I was forced to concede.Recently I have been facing a lot of opponents that decide to construct their second base not at their natural. This allows them to give the illusion of only having one base as opponents assume they have not expanded after checking their natural expansion. This strategy does not seem very viable to me as if your hidden expansion gets scouted, you will have a difficult time defending it.A Zerg player tried this strategy against me. At first I was unaware of his hidden expansion and though he was going to do a one base all-in. I continued to scout his base to allow myself to see when the attack was coming and to learn what tech paths he was taking. When I saw enemy mutalisks in my base coming from an odd direction, I knew something was up. Firstly, mutalisks are quite hard to support on only one base because they take a lot of vespene gas; each base only has two gas geysers. Secondly, the mutalisks approached from an odd angle. Finally, there was no spire in his main base. After I located his hidden expansion I was easily able to deny mining time by attacking both bases simultaneously. Since he did not have any creep connecting his bases as an attempt to keep it hidden, he was unable to defend. The final game we will talk about this week was against a Terran. The Terran player played very passively but continued to deny scouting information. I should have known something was up but I did not react. When cloaked banshees showed up at my base I had nothing to detect them with. I quickly setup some evolution chambers to get out some spore crawlers but too much damage was done. If I had remembered that I could morph overlords into overseers to get detection, I would easily have been able to hold with three queens. However, I completely forgot about overseers and was forced to concede.I achieved my goal of ranking higher than my initial rank. Hopefully this trend will continue and my rank will rise even higher next week.If there are any suggestions or feedback about this series, please let me know on the OnRPG forums (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/) @ Abubakr (http://www.onrpg.com/boards/member-abubakr.html). Alternatively you may message me in Starcraft II (Abubakr, 109).

Rumoured 360 bundle includes five pre-ins

It's reported that a new Xbox 360 bundle will soon hit shops in Canada with five full retail games pre-installed on the console's 250GB hard drive. According to a picture Tweeted from a game store employee, the bundle will pack a 250GB console with Alan Wake, Gears of War 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars and Fable 3 all pre-installed on the hard drive. Buyers will apparently be warned on the box that these games will take up 29.51GB of space on the HDD, which isn't bad for five full-fat Xbox 360 releases (consider that Metal Gear Solid 4 on PS3 reportedly fills up a 50GB Blu-ray disc). According to Joystiq the bundle will go on sale in Canada tomorrow for $299, which is a steal, but it's unclear if this awesome deal will ever make it outside of that region.Microsoft has said recently that it's still confident it can make Xbox 360 the number-one games console globally. Warhammer 40K Space Marine co-op DLC det

Relic has detailed co-op for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. As was explained in the initial announcement early last month, the co-op mode, called Exterminatus, won't be available until early October via DLC.When it does arrive, however, it'll come with two maps allowing four players to work together in a Horde-style game as they battle waves of increasingly difficult enemies. Two maps may not excite straight away, but it's free and who knows what will be added in the future.Playing with mates isn't all about flowery co-operation though. Free CryEngine 3 downloads soar past 100k

Wannabe developers (and probably a fair few random people just curious to see what a proper SDK looks like) have downloaded Crytek's CryEngine 3 SDK over 100,000 times within a week of it going free. That's according to the download count on the official Crytek page, which says the package has been grabbed 114,733 (thanks Gamasutra) at the time of writing.Crytek last week made the full version of CryEngine 3 free to anyone who cares to download it. CryEngine director of global business development, Carl Jones, said that he hopes offering the kit free will spawn new developers and spread the use of CryEngine 3."With the release of our SDK we encourage creators to try out CryENGINE 3 and hope it will lead to new companies being formed and using our engine," he said at the time of the announcement. "More importantly we expect to increase the talent pool for CryENGINE developers, as well as boosting our online community of users."Prospective developers can make a game for non-commercial purposes for free. If they should go on to sell a CryEngine 3-developed product Crytek asks for 20 percent of the revenues made. Mike Jackson

Epic 'No excuse' for missing LA Noire cr

LA Noire has attracted a great deal of positive coverage over the past few months, but a few stories may have detracted a little from the success of the excellent Rockstar thriller. Specifically, we're talking about allegations of poor working conditions at developer Team Bondi and reports that over 130 developers were cut from the game's credits.Analyst Michael Pachter had his say on the latter story earlier this week, suggesting the decision to cut the credits lay at publisher Rockstar's door and not that of Team Bondi. And now Epic president Mike Capps has given his two cents on the matter by slamming the decision, whoever made it.""I think credit is really important, and it's really f***ing cheap - pardon my French," he told IndustryGamers in no uncertain terms. It doesn't cost you a thing to have a guy in the credits who worked for you for three years and had to move to Seattle because his mom got sick six months before the product shipped. Or even just say, he worked hard on this game but didn't finish it."What we do [at Epic] is if someone's a programmer on a game but doesn't stay until the end - the end's the hard part - we'll just call them 'additional programming' as opposed to programmer," he added. "But we absolutely still credit them, because it's free to us and I want the guys here to know that if they ever left they would never be cut out of the credits. It's just common courtesy, really."

Epic 3D on Xbox has 'room for improvemen

Xbox 360 has "room for improvement" where stereoscopic 3D is concerned, reckons Epic Games president Mike Capps, but Gears of War 3 supports the feature and looks "really good". With Sony prominently flying the flag for 3D, Xbox 360 isn't seen as the traditional home for stereoscopic gaming. In fact, there are only a handful of titles that support the feature on Microsoft's box, which is why it was surprising when the platform holder dropped dual-announcements last month that both Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary and Gears of War 3 will support 3D on Xbox 360.Quizzed on Xbox 360's seemingly unsure approach to 3D compared to Sony, and how on earth Epic's managed to get the stunning Gears sequel running smoothly with an extra dimension, Capps told CVG:"I think 3D was the very last thing we did. We've been playing with it for a long time and it added a lot of complexity and testing time. We didn't think we'd make it, which was part of the reason we made a late announcement. But we got it working and we think it looks pretty good."I think there's room for improvement in what the console supports in terms of 3D, but for folks who are looking for a stereo experience I think it's really good."Gears 3 joins a small - yet growing - list of 3D Xbox 360 games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops, De Blob 2 and Crysis 2.It's out on September 20. The latest Gears 3 gameplay trailer showed off Horde 2.0. Have a look. Andy Robinson

Dead Island A Zombie Getaway

By Jackson Leung (Mepath), OnRPG Tech WizardIt was Sunday night. My brother and I decided to go to our usual gaming stop; a cyber-cafe on the outskirts of town. It seems like those are the only places you can find them anymore. We were brimming with excitement over this new zombie game called Dead Island. It wasn't long before we fired the game up and assumed our digital identities.I became Xian Mei, the daughter of a Hong Kong inspector, smart, lethal, and deadly. Who, due to the unfortunate circumstance of being a female in a male dominated society, had her talents squandered by being sent to this island resort to observe for criminal activity. Curses. My brother assumed the identity of Sam B. An African American rap star (yes, he's American, the game said he grew up in New Orleans). It was business as usual, I was partying it up at the resort. After a hard night of partying, I washed down some pills with my liquor and passed out on my bed.I woke up the next morning, did my routine, and on the way out, there was something definitely wrong. The hotel's halls were littered with suitcases. Some of these suitcases were randomly dispersed across the floor. Some of these suitcases were piled on top of each other, and some of these suitcases were made into a wall, but for what? I pondered this question as I emptied the suitcases of their contents into my pockets-of-infinite-storage.It was weird, there were hotel rooms left open, blood stains everywhere, and even dead bodies. It must have been some wild party. It was weird, but I was late for work. I took the elevators down, when suddenly; it came to an abrupt stop. The power went out. A sound. The elevator started plummeting down. The doors flew open, and I saw, a person lying on the floor. He was surrounded by people with gray, ashy skin, their bodies showing wounds that by any medical standards were lethal. Seconds later, I noticed that they had said man's intestines in their hands, and in their mouths. At the same moment, these cannibals took great interest to me, and started running towards me. Not a weapon in hand, stuck inside an elevator, and seeing these hoards of blood-thirsty gray people running towards me. I thought it was the end, I'm too young and beautiful to die; tear. The elevator door slammed shut, another sudden drop, and the lights came back on. A voice from the camera offered help. They said I had to run into some maintenance room and obtain a weapon. It's the only way I'm going to live. Shortly afterwards, the elevator opened, and I was at the lobby.I don't know where the maintenance room was, but I'm going to get there quick. Right after I empty these suitcases I found of their contents. But I didn't have enough time for that. It wasn't long until these gray people, which I'll call zombies, took notice of me. I ran as fast as I could, I saw a door leading to a room that didn't look like a hotel room. I made a beeline for it. I ran in front of the door, and then I dove inside. When I came to, I was surrounded by people who were about to knock my head off with a bat. It wasn't until I proved to them that I was capable of coherent thinking that they left me alone. Apparently, I am one of the few people who are immune to the virus, and one of the few people that can be bitten, and not show the same symptoms as everyone else. Sam B is another person with this mixed blessing. The once tropical paradise is now a living zombie nightmare.Together Sam and I took our first steps out into the world of Dead Island. Taking on requests by the islanders in hopes that we can help obtain and accomplish whatever they need to help us get off the island. It wasn't long before Sam and I were bashing in zombie skulls with whatever we could get our hands on. We had to resort to the oars from a boat, a shovel stabbed into the sand, and a kitchen knife pulled fresh from a downed zombie just to name a few of our odd ball weapons. Of course the zombie waves were endless and these primitive weapons wore out to a state of uselessness quickly. We've recovered access cards, rescued wives, recovered medicine, salvaged car parts, and whenever we had a moment of rest, we'd improve our weapons. Whenever we came across some tools left out on some table, we'd use them to strengthen our weapons. Anything even resembling a weapon would quickly fall into our infinite-pockets!We were on the way to restore the lighthouse power generator so that ships out at see can come to our rescue when we heard the sound we both dreaded the most. "Sorry guys, we're now closing. Please log out. I hope guys had fun." We grudgingly logged off the computers and proceeded home, excitedly sharing our thoughts of the game. We will definitely be playing this game again, in fact, I already bought two copies for our home PCs!I am a huge zombie genre fan. So this review reflects mainly my opinion, and will be biased. I have a strong preference for George A. Romero zombie films and Dead Island sucked me into a world just like Romero would have imagined. This game is like a mix of Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil, and Grand Theft Auto. It had the need to obtain weapons, these weapons also get worn down and break, just like Dead Rising. It had the ability to mess with your weapons, just like Dead Rising 2. It had the zombies chasing you like Left 4 Dead, but unlike left 4 dead, avoided the campy unrealistic occurrence of sudden hordes of zombies arriving. You kind of have venture into areas where zombies are located for them to take notice of you, and then the chasing starts. Finally, there's the atmosphere of Resident Evil. You don't feel like you're going to die any time soon, but you're always concerned that something might kill you. There might be something around the corner, behind that bush, behind you! At the same time, not only are you scared of being killed, you're scared of wasting your precious weapon's durability on killing the damn thing. Finally it resembles GTA in that you can steal and take whatever you need to survive with little worry of legal repercussions.I loved everything about this game, and in my book, this is a must play game for any zombie fan. It's a good single player game, but to get the full experience you MUST play it with friends. Some people say that this game brings nothing special to the table, but really, I'm not sure if there has been another zombie-genre game that has fulfilled this zombie-fan-gamer's desires any better. Dead Rising was great when it came out, Left 4 Dead was intense, and Resident Evil kept me awake at night, but this game has a whole different feel altogether! I feel like I've been on that island, and I've slain those zombies, and I desperately need to get back to the game so that Xian and Sam can leave that island! They need me!The Verdict: Play me now (10/10)* zombies* visuals* sound*zombie bros* atmosphere* realism* open-world environment*zombie room service* their first trailer* the list goes on...* I can't really think of any. Perhaps if the graphics were more realistic, then when that day comes where I finally bash my computer screen in after losing a match of Starcraft, I could use Dead Island as a reactionary excuse.I'm always lurking the forums and redesigning OnRPG. Feel free to say hi.

Free Realms Review MMO Mashed with Miniga

Well, cooking may be nice, but there certainly is more to the game than just making delicious food. Finding out I could repeat the quest. only choosing to knock them out myself as a "Brawler", I returned to the NPC and entered an instanced-like area. Perhaps it is because I have played many MMORPGs that center around combat, but the game's combat system is just a bit too dumbed-down. Basically, you can attack a monsters over and over again until it dies, and you can use one skill that hits multiple enemies. Of course, this is merely the very beginning of the game, surely it will get better. It is very dumbed down, but I got the same result.。There are two types of classes as far as I am concerned. There are the "combat classes" which are merely classes you can use during combat-related quests. The only jobs available to you are Brawler and Ninja, the rest are "Member only" which kind of doesn't make sense. There are also the non-combat related jobs which are jobs you do things related solely to your own job.。MMORPGs usually require a client in order to run the game, and that requires large downloads and disk space, etc.. Free realms, however uses none of those. It runs a engine that downloads and streams straight to your screen, allowing a lot of things to be changed almost instantly. The potential this type of software engineering has is staggering, especially for MMORPGs.

The game looks pretty, too. It's not a big process hog and it doesn't require high-end hardware, meaning even those people who don't have great PCs can still enjoy the game's vivid textures and gorgeous environments. Exploring this game is probably one of the most fun things I have had the pleasure of doing, because you can tell the developers really put a lot of effort into the magical world.。After a bit of research, I found out that there were a lot of classes to chose from, ranging from Go Kart Drivers to Wizards. This was a bit overwhelming, as I didn't really know what the different types of classes would turn out be to, but really, you only need to play the class for a little bit before you get the gist of what the entire thing is like. Such is the way of MMORPGs.。I have already described three of the jobs in this review. Adventurer,( which is what you do while looking for quests basically ), Chef ( which is used for certain chef-based quests ) and Brawler ( which is used for combat-oriented quests ). You can pick whatever job you want and still have fun, but the game allows you to pick whichever you think would be the funnest.。Honestly, I am extremely happy that MMORPG developers are looking to branch out into new and exciting ways to get MMORPGs focused on more than just combat, however, mashing MMORPGs with mini-games can be a deadly combination. Perhaps there is someone out there who enjoys doing nothing but play the same mini-game over and over until their eyes bleed, but I assure you they only do that because they like the mini-game, not because they want to level up a job or get new clothes or finish a quest.。This was something extremely exciting for me. I was treading new ground from my perspective. There was no "please kill ten rats for me because it's raining" quests, I was given a choice. Wary of how this was going to turn out, I proceeded to my next NPC who would help me in my cooking desires. When I realized that I had to merely click on an object and it would give me the items, I was a bit disappointed. That wasn't exactly such a large choice. However, upon actually clicking the object, a screen popped-up that had all types of little icons lined up in a box.。At some point in our lives, we have all opened up a popular mini-game website and played around with a game or two. Some people have even played mini-games for hours and hours on end. ( I know I probably wasted ridiculous amounts of time playing Winter Bells ) while others are only the "play it at the office when i'm bored" kind of people.

Whether you're a die-hard mini-game champion or a relaxed laid-back player, you will like Free Realms; the game where you can combine MMORPGs with mini-games to create a casserole of online fun. I was taken aback when I realized that the game wasn't traditional in many ways, but I came to find that it had plenty in store for me.。Many long-time MMORPG players have always gone with the "where is my sword so I can kill these monsters" mindset for a while, and I have to admit, I was very tempted to merely go in and beat them up myself, however, the opportunity was just too much to pass up. Who wouldn't want to watch a little girl turn into a fairy-hulk and beat a couple of monsters to a pulp?  Therefore, I accepted the quest to concoct a steroids-endowed stew.。"Match the tiles up with each other and you will get vegetables!" was merely the object of this little mini-game, and so I did. Upon collecting various plants and such, I returned to my quest giver. I was then instructed to now cook everything. Another box popped up, and series of mini-mini-games began. Hesitant at first, I got the hang of the little mico-games and I passed with flying colors. Handing the fairy my five-star stew, I felt like a sous chef and, to top it off,  I got to see a funny little cutscene in which she knocks the stuffing out of all the monsters while other NPCs shouted things such as "you go girl" .。As I put an end to my first quest and accepted my second, I was given a choice. The quest simply wanted to me "remove the enemies from my birthday", however, it asked me if I wanted to simply fight them and take them out myself, or I could "cook a magical stew that makes a fairy-girl super strong so she can kick them out".。Typically, when I am not having fun doing something that is supposed to be providing my with entertainment, I simply quit. Free Realms did indeed provide me with entertainment, even though I would not dare tread farther than repeating the same mini-game more than three times in a row. I explored many of the other jobs, which are, in turn, merely mini-games with experience and leveling.。 By Michael Justice (Alphamage), Onrpg writer。"Well that was fun" I merely thought to myself. A small amount of fun combined with a small amount of gratification make a great way to start an MMORPG. However, I didn't realize that most of the quests were going to be nearly exactly like this one, only with perhaps a larger amount of "fun" with a small amount of gratification.。Free Realms combines a myriad of mini-games and mashes it together with a traditional RPG system in an online world. I created a character ( choosing from several different looks assuring I wasn't going to look like everyone else ) and immediately set off in the world, accepting all quests and taking any adventures that came my way. When I first logged on, I thought that this is a traditional MMORPG with standard point-and-click or WASD movement, enemies, combat, etc.;  but after I realized it was more than that, I was only further intrigued.。Deciding to go be a miner, I went to go look for all sort of gems and ores waiting for me in the mountains. After harvesting a few minerals and and having nothing to do with them, I was a bit lost. Then, it hit me. This is what I would do for the rest of my entire job career as a miner. The same old mini game time after time. The snowglobe containing my "fun" was merely shattered to pieces as I realized that all jobs that didn't involve combat were going to be like this.。I tried kart-racing, which definitely felt like some kind of Road Rally spin-off. The pet trainer job just felt like I was playing nintendogs. Card duelist was kind of fun, but again, it's not something I wanted to do over and over.  All combat classes are stale, and let's face it, why play a combat job when there's a lot of MMORPGs that are focused around combat jobs?

GameCube lessons drove 3DS price cut - Iw

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has said that the company made the decision to cut the price of the Nintendo 3DS after reflecting on lessons it learned from the GameCube.Judging from last week's surprising 3DS price announcement, we're guessing the lesson is: if people aren't buying it, do something quickly.According to Iwata, the decision to cut price was agreed upon by the company's entire management. He went on to say that, given the runaway success of the Wii and DS, the company's financial position facilitated the price drop, Andriasang reports. Nintendo's shares nosedived following the publication of the firm's first quarter financial results last week, dropping 12.2 percent Friday having earlier hit a six-year low.Iwata later revealed he will be taking a 50 percent pay cut after saying he felt "heavily responsible" for disappointing early 3DS sales.

Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling plays Batt

Infinity Ward public face / creative strategist Robert Bowling has already admitted plans to purchase Battlefield 3 later this year, and a hands-on session with the game's multiplayer at Gamescom last week appears to have done nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for the Modern Warfare 3 rival. "GamesCom completed," he wrote on Twitter. "Spent an hour playing @Battlefield 3 multiplayer with friends from DICE, I loved it!"The EA-published FPS will be arriving worldwide in October, a fortnight before Activision's MW3 hits shelves. Bowling said last month that although both games' communities were "baiting" each other, there is "definitely room" for the duo of shooters on the market. The respect shared between developers Infinity Ward and DICE - the picture (via Battlefieldo) shows Bowling with BF3 community manager Daniel Matros - isn't uncommon, but it's refreshing to see given the way top executives at their respective parent companies, Activision and particularly EA, have been behaving recently.Back in June, EA CEO John Riccitiello said in no uncertain terms that he wanted to see Call of Duty "rot from the core". Last week, this led Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg to call for a stop to the mudslinging. EA quickly responded with more trash talk, goading Hirshberg by welcoming him to "the big leagues" and predicting the death of Call of Duty. Tom Ivan

Final Fantasy Type-0 trailer shows charac

Square Enix has released a Japanese trailer for Final Fantasy Type-0.Offering a mix of cinematic and in-game footage, this new flick introduces several of the game's characters, and even though all the dialogue is in Japanese we're sure those excited for the new PSP game will enjoy a good five-minute look at it in action. Unfortunately, while Square has said it's considering releasing the game, formerly titled Final Fantasy Agito XIII, in the West, it is yet to commit.Although it doesn't sound like a decision is anywhere near being made, the revelation is promising for Western fans who have, until now, been completely left out of the PSP title's plans. Vita dev kits freely available to indies

Sony has loaned free PlayStation Vita dev kits to at least one indie studio - and perhaps many more. Isle of Wight-based developer Rubicon told Develop that Sony had supplied it with four early kits free of charge in order to build an "upgraded" version of its iOS title Great Little War Game.Steven Haggerty, the group's technical director, said the PlayStation group is "the best" of all the platform holders when it comes to engaging with independent developers."They've just always been so useful in dealing with us," he said. "We've worked with Apple, and you can't get anything out of them. Microsoft rarely responds and I suppose Nintendo are okay, but Sony are always there to help. They always get back to you."Reports circulating on the web suggest Vita dev kits are freely available to indies, but Sony has yet to confirm full details of its licensing policy.EA said last week tharmtta and 3DS face a challenge to succeed in light of growing competition from the smartphone and tablet markets.
