Driver PC DRM requires constant internet

Ubisoft has revealed that the PC version of Driver: San Francisco will require players to be constantly connected to the internet. The Driver store page on Valve's service lists "3rd-party DRM: Ubisoft's Online Services Platform" in its game details section, and Ubisoft community developer Mathieu Willem confirmed on the official Driver Twitter: "PC version requires permanent internet connection."Ubisoft first revealed its controversial DRM in January last year, saying it was "justified by the gameplay advantages offered by the system and because most PCs are already connected to the internet". It went on to say the measure "offers protection against piracy, an important business element for Ubisoft and for the PC market in general".However, it later loosened its policy so that players only needed to be online when booting up PC titles.

Yakuza Dead Souls Trademark Suggests Wes

Sega's zombified Yakuza game, Yakuza: Of the End, arrived in Japan on June 9 of this year. Fans of the series in other parts of the world have been waiting for some news of a global release, and it seems that they might soon have an answer.Sega picked up a trademark in Europe for Yakuza: Dead Souls (via CVG), which seems like a safe bet as a more English-speaking audience-friendly title for the zombie-infused Yakuza game. This is in no way confirmation that a Western Of the End release is coming, but it's a good start. The Yakuza series is a funny beast. Part-open world RPG, part-brawler, part-minigame fest, part-something completely unclassifiable, it is capable of hitting any number of gaming pleasure centers in the space of a single hour. Adding zombies to that mix seems like a recipe for awesome; here's hoping fans in the U.S. and Europe get to find out.Source: OHIM (search trademark number 010291482)

Perfect World 2011 Review - Genesis

By Bryan King, OnRPG Journalist。

 。

 。

Perfect World excels in this aspect. With Perfect World: Genesis, many of the game’s textures have been redone, adding even more beauty to the established franchise. Character detailing is crisp, textures look beautiful, and the overall atmosphere of the game has a great feeling to it. You definitely cannot go wrong in terms of the game’s graphics, especially considering the ability of flight allows you to take in the game’s atmosphere even more.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Perfect World’s character creation is definitely one of the most notable features within the game. In terms of a fantasy based free to play MMO, Perfect World probably has one of the most extensive and detailed character creation systems ever created. The amount of detailing players can put into their character is astounding, allowing everything from eye shadow color to hair length, to mouth width. I had no problem recreating many of my favorite fictional characters.。

Perfect World: Genesis expands upon the already established franchise by adding the Earthguard race, which carries with it the Seeker and Mystic classes. These two classes possess many new skills and up the total to 10 classes. Perfect World definitely allows for much variability in terms of gameplay between the ten classes (Archer, Assassin, Barbarian, Blademaster, Cleric, Mystic, Psychic, Seeker, Venomancer, and Wizard), and the five races (Earthguard, Human, Tideborn, Untamed, Winged Elves). The gameplay aspects of the classes, allow various mixtures of combat, ranging from aerial combat, to underwater battles, and last but not least, those on land. Winged Elves are the only class that can fly from level one, as their name implies, they’re given the gift of flight from birth. Other races have to wait until level 30, unless you buy an Aerogear (flying mount) from the Boutique or earn one via one of the games many events. I felt like flying handled well, but was limited in the long run. Many UI bars made me paranoid as I took off flying, since “acceleration” (a sort of “turbo boost” for the Aerogear) is limited to an expendable reservoir of energy that has to be replenished via in-game items.。

Character design is completely customizable, as covered in the character customization section. The lighting effects within towns makes the game look great and shiny when simply exploring the world. I found myself flying around for almost half an hour just taking a look at the massive environment and my eyes ate it all up.。

Perfect World’s combat isn’t much to brag about. There are a lot of classes, sure, but the combat system seems very repetitive and has been done many times before. Targeting a mob, using the keys 1-9 or f1-f9, standard MMO stuff. However, the game features many expansive modes such as a very finely tuned Pet System, Territory Control System, and Crafting System. My favorite out of these three is definitely the Territory Control System because I’m a sucker for open world objective based PvP. The Territory Control System allows various guilds to bid on “states” to own in the game. Guilds can battle over these territories and utilize catapults and different types of towers to attack and defend these, leading to an epic-looking battle royale. The grand prize? All guild members get the ability to teleport to the states you own every hour, as well as providing services such as free healing and item identification, thus adding a benefit to fighting so hard and paying so much for a territory. Perfect World isn’t so unique in terms of combat, but is chocked to the brim with a ton of cool features to overcome this weakness and find a way to enjoy the game.。

 。

 。

The flawless character customization even allows you to upload a reference image. So, if you want to go ahead and conjure up a spitting image of Justin Bieber, just so you can fly as high as you can into the air and watch him fall endlessly to the ground, you can find an image on Google, download it, and upload it in-game so you have a guide to use without having to alt tab. Other F2P games definitely need to take a page out of Perfect World: Genesis’ book when it comes to character creation. The two most recent expansion races simply add even more content, with the Earthguard and the Tideborn allowing more customization to player taste.。

Fundamentally, Perfect World is a simple game. The combat isn’t anything special, the setting doesn’t seem shockingly new, and the classes aren’t novel. However, the various bonus features make it great. Players who have never experienced an MMO are lucky to come across this game, as it is a perfect “bread and butter” introduction to all MMOs , whether they areF2P or P2P, because of the great features. Perfect World is a must play for any MMO gamer, as the features it has aren’t common within the industry.。

 。

“There will be a time when the beautiful world will cease to exist as we know it today.

Upon release, Perfect World was possibly one of the most anticipated games of 2008. It’s been three years, but Perfect World has not stopped growing. Genesis, Perfect World’s latest expansion, provides a great deal of content for players to enjoy, including a new race, two new classes, new areas, dungeons, and guild bases. Will Perfect World withstand the test of time that usually plagues MMOs? Read below to find out…。

The land of Perfect World will suffer destruction the likes of which has never been seen. The world will be torn apart, leaving massive crevasses across its surface. The oceans will rage with turmoil and the tides will swallow everything in their path. The races of the world, thrown into chaos, will not understand what is happening to their beautiful world.”

 。

 。

 。

However, within the depths of the underground, an ancient race of people with arcane powers and innate psychic abilities have foreseen the coming of this post-apocalyptic world. In knowing the future, they have dedicated their lives to prepare for such a day. The time has now come for them to emerge from the underground. They must join the other races of Perfect World and fight alongside them through the coming disaster.

iRacing Pole Position in Every Aspect

By Neil Kewn (Murxidon) – OnRPG journalistMy neck hurts, my palms are sweaty and my feet ache. Having just finished second in a twenty lap race at Lakeville’s Lime Rock Park, I’m filled with both joy and disappointment. What if I had taken the outside line on that first corner? Surely If I stayed in his slipstream for just a few more seconds I could have passed him on the straight? It was an intense race that ended in disaster, as we both span off the track on the first corner of the final lap. I knew whoever recovered first from this last lap twist would come out with the win. Shifting into first I quickly edged back onto the racing line, managing to get ahead of the eventual victor by inches. Yes – despite my fast recovery the damage sustained to my Mazda MX-5 Roadster was too severe, I bowed out of the race just a few corners before the chequered flag with smoke billowing from my engine.Conceding victory was painful, but that’s just a part of racing – and “professional online driving simulator” iRacing.Racing videogames haven’t always been kind to simulation fanatics. Franchises like Need for Speed and DiRT have traditionally featured gameplay that appealed more to the Tom Cruise of gaming, rather than the Michael Schumacher. Arcade handling and blistering speeds capable from indestructible cars with a permanent shine, those who demand realism in every aspect from their virtual driving shun the mass-market yearly entries in favour of more refined titles like Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo and more increasingly, iRacing. The goal? To provide the most immersive, realistic motorsport experience possible in the comfort of your own home. And boy does it succeed. Starting off with a rookie licence, new subscribers have two racing disciplines to choose from. Traditional road racing on real-world tracks or the NASCAR-like oval competitions, these two distinct styles of racing are fully realized in iRacing. Official licenced series are available for each, including a world championship sanctioned and recognized by NASCAR itself. Naturally you start off at the bottom of the racing ladder, but with good results and safe driving you can advance through the licence tiers unlocking more prestigious series and championships – making a name for yourself in the process. Rookie drivers have four series to compete in, but only two are available with just an initial “bare” subscription.Fans of iRacing tend to avoid labelling it as a “video game”. I can see why, it’s more like a virtual motorsport organization with rules and sanctions and directors and penalties. A 39 page Sporting Code is enforced at all times, and you are expected to read it. To be accepted into the community, you need to be a clean, safe, cautious and respectful competitor. A safety record is assigned to every subscriber - a score printed on their licence representing just how well they avoid incidents out on track. A higher safety record, the more experienced (or careful) a driver is.This is clear out on the track.Safety is paramount and risks taken are always calculated. Slower backmarkers will pull off the racing line and let you pass – it’s all very clean and courteous, the kind of driving you would only ever see on television. The driving itself in iRacing is faultless. It’s a true to life simulation of real world racing and as such, twenty three of the world’s most recognizable licenced vehicles are available. Perfectly remodelled in both design and performance, iRacing is the closest most people are ever going to get to driving a Williams FW31 Formula 1 car. Out on the track cars have weight and handle as you would expect them to in the real world. You won’t be blistering around tracks using barriers as a secondary brake, nor will you be ramming your opponents into the gravel (not unless you want to spin out). Driving is a test of mental skill and accuracy. Find that turn in point on a corner, hit the apex and get the most speed on the out.It goes without saying, but you need a steering wheel and pedal set to experience iRacing in any capacity. Controllers are supported, but nothing beats a solid steering set to give you the edge out on the laser-scanned real-world tracks. My Thrustmaster Ferrari GT wheel was detected straight away, and the in-built calibration system insured it was accurate to the last degree. This all comes at a price though. In addition to a $12 monthly subscription extra tracks and vehicles need to be purchased. With only six cars and ten tracks included with your rookie licence, getting extra content is an investment that a lot of players won’t be able to justify. New tracks can cost as much as $15, additional cars an extra $12 on top of your monthly sub. Content purchased is not lost if you choose not to re-subscribe, but the cost of acquiring new tracks and vehicles can run into hundreds of dollars. As you progress through the licence brackets it’s likely that you will have to purchase new tracks just to compete in an official race. Disappointing. It’s a difficult price to justify if you aren’t a serious motorsport fan. iRacing caters towards the hardcore, the ruthless and the devoted. As a result, it is truly peerless in its detail and execution. The game is completely involved and unquestionably serious about what it stands for, so much so that there are even live television streams of races with professional commentary.iRacing is the pinnacle of multiplayer motorsport, a franchise with a loyal community and competition that is as wide as it is intense. It’s an expensive indulgence. Casual fans need not apply, nor should the faint of heart, but for those with a passion for motorsports, iRacing is a true-to-life realization of modern racing - a premier multiplayer competition experience that they will never forget. Graphics - 3 Controls - 5 Features - 5 Customization - 5 Community - 5

LA Noire dev goes into administration

LA Noire developer Team Bondi has gone into administration, according to a report by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, which says the former Rockstar-backed studio received a notification of discharge on August 26. Rumours surrounding the studio's imminent financial collapse first emerged early last month following widespread reports that the developer had had a major falling out with LA Noire publisher Rockstar and the pair had no future plans to work together. Reports also suggested Rockstar and not Team Bondi owns the LA Noire IP. It was recently claimed that the LA Noire dev was being acquired by KMM Studios, the Australian developer working on Happy Feet 2. This morning that doesn't appear to be the case.Team Bondi's status with ASIC has been changed to 'Under External Administration and/or Controlled Receivership', although it's noted it can take up to 28 days for a company filing for administration to become public. There's no word yet on the fate of Team Bondi's sister company Depth Analysis, which was responsible for the impressive Motionscan tech seen in Rockstar's crime thriller. We're absolutely baffled by this. What happened to all that LA Noire money? We'll bring you more as we get it... Andy Robinson

Twelve Sky 2 The Asian RPG Defined

By Remko Molenaar (Proxzor), OnRPG Journalist Twelve Sky 2 is a free-to-play MMORPG developed by ALT1 and published by several publishers. I decided to check out the version Aeria Games has published and I found myself in Ancient China. Players are thrown in a story where 3 warring clans have been doing battle for longer than any can remember. Players must fight to honor their brothers and clan or turn their backs in their hour of need. The current factions that players can choose from are the Dragon Clan, Tiger Clan and Snake clan. When creating your first character you get the choice between three clans, each of these clans have their own strengths and weaknesses and start off in a different town. There are also different weapons that these clans are specialized in and you can choose between three different weapons. I chose to go for the Tiger Clan because of the weapons; the weapons I could choose from are the Thin Blade, Long spear and Gauntlet. Since the Long spear was looking like a winner I chose the spear. There were also a few minor customization features available to tweak when creating your character but I didn’t spend very long messing with them. When creating your character apparently they show you some high level gear because the long spear I fell in love with got replaced with just a simple looking spear. Disappointed, I set out on some quests to try to find something closer to the spear of my dreams. In most of the MMORPGs it is the golden question mark that shows you that you can complete or find a quest. I got a question mark in the middle of my screen and couldn’t click on it nor could I find its purpose. After a long search of the interface menus I finally found its purpose. It turns out a NPC with an important quest was calling for me. This was a really ridiculous way to alert me and I would have just preferred an auto path option. When I finally accepted the quest, it turned out to be the tutorial because the old man just wanted me to visit some locals that would tell me their story and their purpose in the town. When I got into the game I was a little bit disappointed, the game’s graphics were a bit dated. I also discovered that wasd keys were not available to move my character around. Unfortunately it is a point and click only system. As I went to talk with several NPCs I saw different mounts and pet’s people carried with them. There are several mounts I saw while walking through the city; besides the several unique looking bears I also saw a tiger that looked like it was covered in blood.I also saw a variety of flying pets including wasps, dragons, birds and other demon looking pets. These pets all have different level requirements and there is a wide variety in choices. They all have unique extra abilities that they will give you so there is some strategy in choosing a pet that compliments your weapon style. The pets also seem to be built on an individual leveling system that adds a nice side venture of training various pets for battle. In Twelve Sky 2 it is also possible to craft items, combine items and enchant items. Enchanting item’s can give your weapon a really nice visualization effect that will even make you look more awesome. If you want to enchant an item you can open up the Item Enchanting Calculator on several fan sites to calculate the chances to succeed, break, or fail your enchantment. I highly recommend putting in the research before upgrading valuable gear because you’ll be shedding some tears if you destroy your legendary equipment in this game.Twelve Sky 2 isn’t a bad looking game but it has its own style that I personally don’t like. They try to create the aura of Ancient China but it never felt authentic to me. They also give the sky some weird looking colors to make the feeling grimmer. To play Twelve Sky 2 the game requires you to have at least a Pentium 3 800 Mhz processor along with 512 MB of RAM and a GeForce FX 5200 or Radeon 7600 video card. If you have no idea whatsoever about computers but do know how old your computer is. I would say everyone that has a computer that is made after the year of 2004 is pretty much set to play this Twelve Sky 2.As most Free-to-play MMORPGs, Twelve Sky 2 also has an Item Mall where you can buy items with real money. It is possible to buy several different items such as: skills, potions, enchants, scrolls and mysterious boxes. There is also the possibility to buy Mounts and Pets. I feel the Item Mall does make the game pay to win for the Player versus Player aspect of the game. Some skills in particular seemed pretty unbalanced to have available as cash shop items.Twelve Sky 2 offers a lot of gameplay features such as Player versus Player, crafting, enhancements, pets and mounts. I personally didn’t like the style of Twelve Sky 2 because it screamed an Asian theme to the point that I felt nauseated. Nonetheless this game has a really kick ass combat system along with awesome looking skills. If you are a fan of Asian RPGs with shiny glowing weapons 10 times the size of your character, then I would recommend you to try out Twelve Sky 2 because that’s exactly what you’re getting into.

Video interview BioWare on making Mass E

Mass Effect 3's associate producer Michael Gamble sat down to talk with CVG at GamesCom to discuss the series finale, which will see the return of an RPG emphasise. One way of delivering this is giving more weight to the relationships in Mass Effect 3 through subtle non-verbal character traits and communication, he said."We want to be able to accent eye movement a little bit more. Subtle movements in the face give away a lot," said Gamble. "That's key to story-telling. Obviously most people know, when you're communicating with someone, the non-verbal cues are just as important if not more important than the verbal cues. We want to bring those to life more."We think that we've actually pushed that a little bit further with Mass Effect 3," he continued. "There's obviously a whole plethora of things we could do given enough time with movies and CG animation. We just want to keep moving down that path." Watch in HD No comments yet, be the first! Have a look at the latest Mass Effect 3 trailer, which came out of GamesCom and shows combat. Tom Pakinkis

You've probably already heard Jeremy Clarkson trying to get his head around Halo 4's Warthog in Forza 4. He was rubbish. He may know his XZ120s from his R3T40s (we made those up) but he clearly didn't know his Halo. So, when it comes to talking Halo in Forza 4's Autovista Mode, Turn 10 has got an alternative and she certainly knows a thing or two about the Warthog. Nintendo to make a loss on every 3DS sold

While Sony and Microsoft systematically sell their new consoles at a loss - initially at least - Nintendo has always resisted such tactics, instead balancing production costs to maintain a profit margin on its hardware. But this is a practice Nintendo will forfeit with the 3DS, according to Bloomberg Japan (via Andriasang), who reports that Nintendo will indeed be making a loss on every 3DS sold after it introduces the drastic price cuts announced today. As reported earlier, Nintendo will chop around a third off the price of 3DS worldwide next month, following lacklustre sales in the early part of 2011.3DS' RRP will drop from $249 to $169.99 in the US on August 12. A cut to the European trade price will come on the same day. Nintendo is yet to confirm the exact drop for the EU, but has told CVG that it will be "around a third".Australia will also benefit on August 12, with 3DS dipping from $350 to $250. Meanwhile, Japan will see a price drop on August 11 - to 15,000, down from 25,000. The firm also announced a '3DS Ambassador' program that will award early adopters 20 free games in an effort to prevent them from 'regretting' purchasing the console early.

Insomniac Games has detailed its plans for the Resistance 3 multiplayer public beta, set to kick off next month. For UK and Euro regions, PlayStation Plus subscribers will, as ever, get the VIP treatment with VIP access to the beta from August 10. Subscribers will be able to download the client from the PS Store's PS Plus section from that date. Non subscribers will have to wait for "further opportunities to get into the Beta after this date", although no further details were specified. In the US, however, those of you who have received Early Access to the Public Beta via specially marked packages of SOCOM 4 will be allowed into the beta "at some point on Thursday, August 4", by using the redeem code you have for the PS Store. US PS Plus subs will have to wait until August 23 to get their R3 fix, while non-subscribers are again left in the dark with only the promise of further details at a later date. Feel neglected much?Insomniac has also detailed what you'll get in the beta. "The Resistance 3 Beta includes two of our major maps in the game, the Seaside of Glamorgan, Wales, as well as a Trainyard in Bogota, Colombia," it explains. "The Public Beta includes two of our five multiplayer modes, Team Deathmatch and Chain Reaction (the other three are Deathmatch, Breach, and Capture the Flag). You can level your character up, buy and upgrade weapons and abilities, customize your loadouts and unlock new character skins. We have capped the level in the beta at 20, so you won't be able to get the full range of abilities, modes, maps, and weapons until the game launches in September."Those of you who don't get into the beta will be pleased to know that both Uncharted 3 and Resistance 3 will be playable at massive consumer show GAMEfest in Birmingham (UK) this September.

Activision expects six Blizzard releases

We all know Blizzard likes to take its sweet time with its games, making sure it crafts them to perfection before letting gamers even have a sniff, but it looks like it'll have to get a move on for a few years. Speaking at the Citi 2011 Technology Conference today, Activision Blizzard COO Thomas Tippl said Activision expects Blizzard to launch six major releases in the next three years. These releases include two expansions for World of Warcraft and two for Starcraft II. MMO and RTS fans can be excited, then. The other two releases pertain to Diablo III; first the actual bloody game, which fans have been waiting for since Werther's Originals were invented, and could be out this year with any luck. And the second a Diablo III expansion, which Tippl apparently expects out before the end of 2014 (but hopefully some time before the next ice age). Best get to work then, lads. Mike Jackson

Video interview Insomniac on 'imaginativ

With the likes of Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3 the dominant names on every gamers' mind, it sounds like it's going to be a cold winter for any title that isn't a sequel to some superpower series. Overstrike isn't one of those, but creative director Brian Allgiar believes the fact that Insomniac's latest doesn't sit atop a well established franchise could actually help the new kid on the block, along with some other key factors. "It's a brand new IP. It's going to be coming out at a time when we think a lot of sequels are going to be coming out so it's a very fresh, new experience for players," Allgiar told us in our video interview."We're focusing on co-op, which is a big trend right now, people love to play games together, and we're specifically focusing on an a-symmetrical co-op experience."While it's a brand new IP, Allgiar hopes that the same old Insomniac qualities will see it through:"Overstrike definitely plays to Insomniac's strengths, it's got imaginative weaponry, it's got engrossing characters and storylines. It's also got a sense of humour and it's heavily based on action." Watch in HD No comments yet, be the first! See Overtstrike in action - and more details on how it plays - via this here link. Halo Reach gets Anniversary gun with upda

Microsoft's detailed an upcoming Halo Reach title update set to introduce a Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary weapon to the Bungie FPS.The update, which is targeted for release in October, will see the return of the monstrously overpowered Halo: Combat Evolved Magnum pistol, which will be supported in special, classic playlists. In addition, the update will introduce several multiplayer fixes including a change to Armour Lock which sees the power absorb a level of damage based on the amount of remaining energy a player has, diminishing its effectiveness. Watch in HD No comments yet, be the first! Active Camo's duration has been reduced and the ability to block sword attacks using any weapon other than another sword has been disabled, says Microsoft."And for fans of precision firing, reticle bloom is now configurable, delivering increased accuracy when firing in rapid succession," it adds. The update will also enable Halo: Reach players using an Xbox 360 4GB console without a HDD to utilize Campaign and Firefight matchmaking, which previously required a HDD. GTA V Latest movement points to late 201

Rockstar and Take-Two are unlikely to release the still unannounced Grand Theft Auto V before holiday 2012 at the earliest. That's according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, who came to the conclusion after the companies revealed a March 2012 launch for Max Payne 3 earlier today."With the announcement, we are increasingly convinced that we will not see the next Grand Theft Auto title until (at least) holiday 2012," he wrote in an investor note."We doubt that Rockstar would launch two of its titles in close proximity to each other given the studio's elaborate marketing campaigns and the likelihood that GTA could cannibalize sales from MP3 if launched in late spring."Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said last month he expects GTA V "to sell at least 18 million units" and perhaps as many as 24 million. Heroes of Might and Magic Online Review

By Jerrico Tan (JetSet), OnRPG JournalistMeant as a browser game for the Chinese market in 2008, Heroes of Might and Magic Online (or HoMMO for short) arrived to western shores as a standalone client game last June 2010. TQ digital, a Chinese game studio, jimmy choo boots, based this game on Ubisoft’s best selling franchise – Heroes of Might and Magic III but this time added an MMO spice to it.For those who are unfamiliar with this long running franchise, this game is generally about the player being a hero of their race who sets out to become the ruler of their land with tactical prowess and castle management. When logging in for the first time, the game lets you select one of 8 factions. Each faction has its own town design with a unique set of racial units to choose from, and each of these units have their own tactical styles, thus spicing up combat quite nicely. For example, choosing the ‘Castle’ gives you human units that offer straightforward attack bonuses while the ‘Necropolis’ gives you undead units that specialize in devastating debuffs (one of these units even has a skill that can cut an enemy’s HP in half!).After choosing a faction, players must next create a hero that will provide commands to the selected faction units. They can choose from spell caster or melee type of hero. Both classes can choose the same illustrations/avatar pictures in the list, but their starting hero appearances are the same. You can customize your hero’s hairstyle and equip class specific armors later in the game.As I have said earlier, this MMO spinoff derived most of its elements from Might and Magic III. The classic hexagonal turn based battles are still here, jimmy choo outlet, but TQ added new kinds of exploration elements to it.The new kind of adventure element that separates this game from previous HoMM titles is the real time exploration. That means you can explore the beginner city of Harmondale and the rest of the world with your hero as an avatar. The realms outside the city are filled with wild creatures that can be farmed for items. There are also grinding types of quests that should be completed outside the city such as killing 8 wild beasts or reaching NPCs located at places in the middle of nowhere. You shouldn’t worry about finding the quests though because just like other Chinese MMOs (like Godswar Online), you can use the autopath feature to let your hero easily get to its required destination. The classic turn based world travel system is still here, but is now part of Episodic Quests that have to be completed for rewards. These quests can also be completed with friends through co-op. Supply items can also be collected here (all supplies that you have collected in the quests can be deposited when you’re back in the city). The city of Harmondale is the heart of the game. This is where you can sell and trade items, deposit looted supplies in quests, change your hairstyle and assign members for your army. Some special events (like trivia quiz contests) are held in the city daily. The main city is also the only place where you can gain access to your town.Your very own town is the only place where you can upgrade units, and each of them has their own respected houses. Players can only gain access to the higher-level units when your town has reached its house requirements. Fallen units from previous battles can also be used to upgrade its squad’s star level (raising star levels give great bonuses in the unit’s stats).Just like Might and Magic III, battles take place in a small arena with hexagonal tiles. Each player represents squads of visible units on each side of the screen. Ranged units can fire across the arena while melee units need to reach their opponents’ units first in order to attack. Heroes are on the side of the battlefield but can play an active role. They can only use spells learned in their spell-books (spells vary from powerful nukes to support buffs that can help your squads last even longer in battle).Another unique element in this MMO is its spell learning system. Proficiency points (which can be achieved through in-game battles) are needed to level-up your spells. Unlike the usual MMOs, higher spell-books are required to master spells. And lastly, through the game’s matchmaking system, TQ has perfected its PVP feature. Thanks to this, cheap jimmy choo, players are assured of having an even match against their opponents. Tournaments and ranking matches are held daily and winning players are greatly rewarded. These and many other features sum up to an MMO worth playing. But amidst all the features mentioned, there are still noticeable flaws and drawbacks. It takes a long while for a player who is new to Might and Magic to learn the game’s basics. The user manual is also misleading. The game was poorly translated in English and some game dialogues were difficult to understand (Gibberish characters always appear after texts which can be annoying). The graphics is outdated for its time (2008) and making it 2.5D clearly wasn’t enough to compete with other MMOs in the market. Non-paying players are also at a large disadvantage as there are no opportunities to obtain cash items, unlike other MMOsIn conclusion, TQ did a great job in making this a special MMO spinoff of Might and Magic III. Unfortunately, hardcore fans of the franchise might get disappointed about this one. The MMO elements that were added made it lose the Heroes of Might and Magic feel. Plus, the game itself is more about the growth of your hero and spells instead of town and unit management. Nevertheless, this is still certainly commendable since this game was developed by a totally different team and the game itself is meant for another audience. But despite all those issues, this unique Heroes of Might and Magic game is still one of the best strategy games around and is definitely worth a try. *Based on a highly acclaimed franchise. *Wide range of factions and tactical gameplay. *Great matchmaking system. *Easy to manage buildings and units.*Confusing game basics and misleading manuals. *Poorly translated interfaces/scripts. *Outdated graphics (for a client game).

Sony's slick 3D headset is actually comin

Remember that slick 3D headset Sony showed off at the beginning of the year? Well it looks like you're actually going to be able to buy one. The PlayStation firm has officially slapped a November 11 Japan release date on the futuristic-looking visor, called 'HMZ- T1', and it's set to keep the same specs seen earlier in the year. While the exterior design has changed slightly (it's not so slick now), the headset still boasts a pair of 1280x720 0.7-inch OLED panels mounted in front of each eye (apparently offering an experience similar to viewing a 750-inch screen from 20m away), as well as 5.1 surround sound from integrated headphones. The HMZ-T1 includes HDMI input and output (so you can take off the headset and continue on a TV) and is set to retail for 60,000 yen (£481).Sony's exec deputy president Hiroshi Yoshioka said of the device in January, "As a big gamer myself, I couldn't be excited more than when I first played Gran Turismo 5 with this head-mounted display because nobody, not even my wife, could interrupt me so that I could get a higher score." Halo Movie Rumors Resurface In Press Kit,

Let's all just calm down for a minute. A Halo movie has long been a dream for fans, one that's almost happened several times. The closest we got was a project that had Peter Jackson producing and District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp directing. It was put to rest for a variety of reasons. Now there's information suggesting that a Halo movie -- from Steven Spielberg, no less -- is coming in 2012.Not bloody likely, I say.The word comes from a French language press release for the upcoming Halo: Cryptum novel (via CVG), which notes that a film adaptation of the popular series is set for 2012 with Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks leading the charge. This isn't the first time Spielberg's name has been attached to Halo, which I would guess is how it ends up being mentioned in the press release.Unfortunately for fans, Hollywood productions can't really be kept under wraps the way video games are. This is especially true for a blockbuster production, which Halo would surely be, not to mention one with a name like Spielberg's attached to it. That 2012 timeframe is the big red flag here; there's just no way we're at most slightly more than a year out from a Halo movie without having heard anything.Whoever wrote the press kit up was likely misinformed or simply working with inaccurate information. I've dropped DreamWorks a line just to be sure, but seriously folks: don't get your hopes up.Source: Halo.fr

Xbox Live Chief We Don't Want to Appear

In the throes of the 23-day PlayStation Network Outage, when people were vowing they'd sell their PS3s and go join Xbox Live, Microsoft's most provocative comment was a low-key prediction that it would see more traffic on its service. Yesterday, though, Xbox's senior executive finally said what's bad for the goose is bad for the gander."It's bad for the industry that this has happened to Sony," Dennis Durkin, the chief operating officer of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, told IndustryGamers. "[W]e don't wish that upon anybody and you've seen we've been actually pretty quiet on the subject because we don't want to appear to even be looking to be taking advantage of somebody else's situation like that. That's just not in our DNA," he said. It's polite and professional, and just plain sensible PR, to not revel in your rivals' multibillion-dollar misfortunes. But what probably inform's Durkin's there-but-for-the-grace-of-God perspective is the fact that Xbox Live is shifting its attention to "the cloud," i.e. to servers that the bad guys can (and, likely, eventually will) attack. So while Durkin says Microsoft does "everything it can to be sure users' data is secure," he did say that "it is the consumer's responsibility also to do a number of things to try to protect their data," such as not using the same password across multiple sites, especially super-important ones. Some of you probably think that's putting it lightly. The game rode a wave of hype into stores earlier this year, but the end product from THQ's now-defunct Kaos Studios was a certifiable mess. The publisher has invested in Homefront as a franchise, however, which means a sequel has always been on the horizon. With Kaos gone, THQ has now turned to Crytek for the follow-up.The news was confirmed this morning, though it's going to be some time before we see how occupied America is faring in the wake of the resistance's victory at the end of the first game. The press release notes that the Homefront sequel is currently targeted for a 2014 console and PC release.Crytek is certainly a solid choice, and the team there clearly feels there are a lot of possibilities to explore in Homefront's basic Red Dawn-inspired story setup. "We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ," CEO Cevat Yerli said in a statement."We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It's really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way."

From Dust smashes day-one sales record fo

Gamers like to play God, it seems, as Ubisoft confirms its new God game, From Dust, has set a new sales record for the publisher. According to Ubisoft, the game sold more copies on its first day on sale than any previous digital title from the French publishing giant. Without providing exact figures, the firm says day-one sales of From Dust beat the company's former best-selling XBLA title by a margin of 45 percent. The game sees players take the roll of a deity capable of manipulating the land, which you must do to help your tribes thrive and protect them from an abundance of natural disasters. The game received rave reviews across the board (except from Destructoid) prior to its July 27 release. Mike Jackson

Free CryEngine 3 downloads soar past 100k

Wannabe developers (and probably a fair few random people just curious to see what a proper SDK looks like) have downloaded Crytek's CryEngine 3 SDK over 100,000 times within a week of it going free. That's according to the download count on the official Crytek page, which says the package has been grabbed 114,733 (thanks Gamasutra) at the time of writing.Crytek last week made the full version of CryEngine 3 free to anyone who cares to download it. CryEngine director of global business development, Carl Jones, said that he hopes offering the kit free will spawn new developers and spread the use of CryEngine 3."With the release of our SDK we encourage creators to try out CryENGINE 3 and hope it will lead to new companies being formed and using our engine," he said at the time of the announcement. "More importantly we expect to increase the talent pool for CryENGINE developers, as well as boosting our online community of users."Prospective developers can make a game for non-commercial purposes for free. If they should go on to sell a CryEngine 3-developed product Crytek asks for 20 percent of the revenues made. Mike Jackson

id has 'definitely struggled' with consol

id has told CVG that it has "struggled" with input latency on console during the development of Rage - but that the game is now running "really fast" on all systems. The studio's multi-format breakneck FPS, due for release in October, has been build using its pride and joy, id Tech 5.And according to id's creative director Tim Willits, the engine has helped iron out issues with trying to get the game up to speed on Xbox 360 and PS3."Even developing Rage, we've worked on consoles and there's actually lots of latency in the controllers you don't have on the keyboard and mouse, he said. "We've definitely struggled with that, but we've made it as fast as we can make it." Willits believes that Rage has been made in the "id spirit" that spawned classics like Quake and Doom, but that id Tech 5 has added special twists. He explained that the engine allows id to paint each object in the world separately - leading to diverse environments."It's true multi-platform technology," he added. "Historically we made a great PC game and we had to cut it all up on console. That isn't the case with id Tech 5. It runs really fast, 60hz on all the systems. It's fluid, responsive - and it looks beautiful." Tim Ingham

Nintendo's Star Fox inspired by... Thunde

In its latest 'Iwata Asks', Nintendo has delved into the ideas behind its beloved flight combat/rail shooter title Star Fox - and its influences are surprisingly close to home. Quizzed on the decision to use anthropomorphic animals as characters in the game, Nintendo think-tank Shigeru Miyamoto replied by saying "most of the sci-fi in Japan back then was robot anime, superheroes and monsters" and that he "wasn't interested in doing the same thing".According to Miyamoto he'd been drawing animal characters for a while and the team decided to use them since they would seem so out of place in a shooting game and therefore would be memorable."I had been drawing animal characters for a long time, so I suggested animal characters to Imamura-san. He was surprised," he explained. "We were like, 'But animal characters in a shooting game?' and then 'That's precisely why it would have impact!'Speaking about the Super Famicom version, which used puppets for its box art, Miyamoto revealed he "always loved English puppet drama, like the Thunderbirds".Apparently the father of Mario liked Thunderbirds so much that he "imagined Star Fox selling a lot and the company that produced Thunderbirds coming all the way from England for negotiations to adapt it into a puppet drama". It's a shame it never happened, Miyamoto-san.Star Fox 64 is making its way to the 3DS next month. Cast your eyes on this five minute gameplay video to see how it's shaping up. Tamoor Hussain

Wii U can do anything PS3 and 360 can - E

Wii U is likely to be capable of doing anything PS3 or Xbox 360 can, according to EA, which recently received new development kits for Nintendo's console. Vice president Andrew Wilson told Eurogamer the publisher now has a slightly better idea of Wii U's power and it hopes it's even more capable than Microsoft's and Sony's systems."I think that's our hope, but again we're still in the early stages," he said. "As every new piece of hardware and every new development library comes through we get a greater understanding of the power. With our early research we had been very happy with the output of the box and we expect that that will only go up moving forward."It's still moving," Wilson added, "but I think we'll be able to do anything that we can do on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the Wii U."Asked about the Wii U's online capabilities, Wilson said he couldn't disclose much because EA's NDAd up to the eyeballs."[Online is] something that we're working very closely with Nintendo on. We are highlighting to them what we believe are the most important elements to that infrastructure to deliver a connected experience that we think is the future of gaming. "We're working through the development with them now," he added. "We have a series of people who are under very strict NDAs as you can imagine, operating with them, building that system out." He also said FIFA 13 may be a Wii U launch title, but ultimately that decision will rest with Nintendo. While publishers and developers are still attempting to work out the technical capabilities of Wii U, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Duke Nukem Forever developer Gearbox has described the platform as a "stop-gap" between this generation of consoles and the next.

Hands-On Impressions Of The Legend of Zel

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be in your hands in only a few months but it was in our hands just a week ago at PAX. G4's Leah Jackson spent sometime in the Sky Temple, here's what she thought. Spoiler alert: There's a temple called the Sky Temple."I must admit that I haven't played a Wii game in a very long time, but the Skyward Sword controls felt quite natural once I got the hang of them. You move around with the thumb stick, hit Z to lock on to enemies, and thrust out the nun chuck to raise your shield. With the Wii Mote you control Link's sword and pull out your various items. The game promises 1:1 sword action with the Wii Motion Plus, and while I think it failed to live up to that metric, it was still very impressive. If I lifted my sword above my head, Link would mimic that action. If I waved it in front of me, again, Link would do just that. Even when fighting, Link would stab or swing the sword in the direction I did, allowing me to, for the first time ever with a Wii, actually feel like I was swinging a sword. Being a lazy PC gamer myself, I wasn't so used to defending with the shield with one hand and swinging my sword with my other hand at first, but after I saw Link doing it in the game, I began to get the hang of it. I can see many people getting physically tired from this if they really get in to it, but that's half of the fun."Read all of her The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword preview for more.

The Myth of the WoW Killer

Now, AoC is still on its second expansion, Rise of the Godslayer, with most of the bugs from its launch fixed. However, AoC still fights against its bad reputation to prove to players that the game is worth trying a second time.。

 。

 。

 。

Of course I’m not disregarding titles that have been truly unique experiences (Champions Online for one) however they have yet to achieve the “legendary” status that WoW Killers seem to have.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

 。

For me though, I say that this title is rubbish and a myth. And I’m saying it with conviction.。

As far as I am concerned, I stand by my call that the WoW killer would stay as myth unless I see games that can uproot what WoW has established. Only time will tell if that would ever come to pass.。

 。

 。

By: Vincent Haoson, OnRPG Journalist。

The WoW playerbase was immediately affected come AoC’s launch. However after a few months, players started returning to WoW after experiencing Hyboria for themselves, disappointed with what they have experienced. The majority of those returning complained of bugs. If Funcom would have given the game development a bit more time, history might have taken another path.。

 。

Before anyone would raise their arms in utter outrage on that statement (if I guess there would still be anyone who would care for that) I would say in my defense that I’m not a WoW fanboy. My WoW experience took only two or three months of my life. In that span of time most of it was spent as a Blood Elf Paladin (all types) and I stopped playing because (1) my budget can’t afford me to keep on playing (2) I really needed to get away from WoW before I got too addicted and stopped working all together.。

 。

People who have been immersed in the MMO scene for the past decade for sure wouldn’t find this “title” new. In the off chance that you are part of that rare group of people, I would say that you have been living under a rock that’s under another rock. In the past decade there have been MMO titles that have been called as such because people believed that these titles would finally steal the crown off WoW as one of the biggest game titles in the MMO industry.。

 。

I could list on and on what WAR did wrong, but in the end players decided to just cancel their subscription. The supposed WoW-killer with a killer budget failed to even put a dent on the WoW front, and now WAR is slowly losing its servers one by one.。

 。

 。

 。

 。

Warhammer Online was considered as the biggest contender against WoW. I personally would have to agree that the game had a lot of potential. It allowed new players to get into PvP from level 1. It had a rich history based on the Warhammer franchise before it became an MMO, ensuring a huge following of promotional fanboys leading up to launch.。

However, try as developers might, WoW would not budge since up till now it  is still going strong. Sadly, as the years continue I can only say that the idea of an MMO being able to defeat WoW is more and more becoming a wishful dream—myth-like if you will, especially with the trend of MMOs these days.。

Developers have stopped trying to be different but instead went with the safe route of getting elements from what WoW has set and just merely adding a few tiny pinches of “creativity” into their games. Of course who could blame them? After seeing titles burn out after going against WoW developers would then prefer to just get some sort of return regardless if they are copying WoW or not.。

The lack of any attempts on developers to becoming bigger than WoW and just settling for something that can rake in some cash is one of the reasons why I think that the idea of a true WoW Killer is a myth.  Developers these days either would not take risks or are that just lazy and create game, after game, after game that would follow the WoW formula.。

 。

The current set of MMOs being released lately has started to incorporate elements of WoW into their games. May it be in the way of the job class, skill tree or even the interface, you constantly see MMOs trying to copy WoW elements rather than innovate away from them.。

Also if you are wondering why I only used these two as example when there are a lot of MMOs out there who may have been presented as a WoW killer one way or another, my reason is that AoC and WAR was heavily marketed as the WoW killer.。

 。

The lack of any attempt to be better than WoW really has strangled the growth of the MMO scene. In the east alone- WoW clone after WoW clone have been released and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.。

There are still people out there who chronically title MMOs as the possible WoW killer that we’ve all been waiting for. As far as I recall, I only remember of two BIG titles (in terms of marketing) that has been crowned by the gaming public as the “chosen one”.。

 。

 。

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (back then) was one of the major MMO titles that would’ve given Blizzard a run for its money. The game presented a whole new gameplay aspect never tried in an MMORPG. The worlds were wonderfully made, and the women NPCs were downright beautiful. It was set as one of the highly anticipated titles to come out back then.。

Upon the game’s release, players flocked into the Warhammer servers hoping to enjoy what Mythic has promised. However, upon experiencing the game first-hand, players would slowly but surely leave the game for WoW again (or another MMO). WAR had failed to maintain proper class and population balancing which is integral in a PvP oriented MMO. The promised big battles in WAR failed to deliver when the server itself did not live up to the hype and crashed hard once 50-100 players flocked into the same battleground.。

To make things clear, WAR and AoC aren’t bad games. In fact, if they were better run by the companies who managed them, I bet WoW wouldn’t be comfortably sitting on its perch as the MMO who pwned them all.

The War Of The Worlds XBLA Side-Scroller

Other Ocean Interactive has done some beautiful work on the upcoming digital download release, an adaptation of the classic H.G. Wells alien invasion sci-fi novel, The War of the Worlds. Looking at it, it's easy to think back to another downloadable feast of eye candy from last summer, Playdead's Limbo.Fortunately, it looks like we won't be waiting much longer for Other Ocean to drop the side-scrolling platformer, provided you're an Xbox 360 owner. The game comes to XBLA on October 26, the developer confirms on its Facebook page. PlayStation 3 and PC releases will follow "soon."Source: Facebook
